Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Candelaria Racing Products LLC ("we", "us") collects when you use VFR Trip Planner (the website at vfr-trip-planner.com and the iOS app, the "Service"), how we use and share it, and your choices. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show ads.

Information we collect

  • Account: your email address, name if you provide one, and which sign-in method you use (email, Apple or Google), through our sign-in provider, Clerk. If you use Sign in with Apple and hide your email, we get Apple's relay address.
  • What you enter: aircraft profiles (registration, type, performance and fuel figures, home airport), trip details (destination addresses, dates and times, route preferences and chosen stops or waypoints), saved trips, and your planning settings.
  • Subscriptions: your subscription status, plan and renewal dates, and a customer identifier. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe (website) or Apple (iOS), never by us.
  • Technical: IP address, browser or device type and request details in our server logs, and error reports, used to run, secure and fix the Service.
  • On your device: the website keeps your plan form and display preferences in your browser's local storage; sign-in uses session cookies. The iOS app keeps your aircraft and settings on the device and any FAA NOTAM key you enter in the device keychain. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

We don't collect your device's location. Positions used for weather and airspace checks are points along the routes you plan.

How we use it

  • to plan your trips and show weather, airspace and services along them;
  • to keep your account, aircraft, settings and saved trips in step across the website and the app;
  • to run subscriptions, free trials and billing, and to prevent trial abuse and fraud;
  • to answer support requests and send service messages (for example about your account or subscription);
  • to keep the Service secure, diagnose problems and improve it; and to meet legal obligations.

If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, our legal bases are performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running and securing the Service, your consent where we ask for it, and legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We share information only as needed to provide the Service, with these service providers:

  • Clerk (sign-in), Stripe (web payments), Apple (App Store payments, and Apple Maps in the iOS app), RevenueCat (subscription status across platforms);
  • Fly.io (hosting), Neon (database), Cloudflare (domain and DNS);
  • Google Maps Platform and the US Census Bureau geocoder: the destination addresses you enter, to find them and work out drive times, and airport locations, to list nearby restaurants, hotels and rental cars;
  • government data services (aviationweather.gov, the National Weather Service, the FAA): route positions and airport or airspace identifiers only, to get weather, TFRs and NOTAMs.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect rights, safety or the Service, or as part of a sale or reorganization of the business (with this policy continuing to apply). We don't sell or "share" personal information for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined in California law.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information, aircraft, settings and saved trips while you have an account; you can delete aircraft and saved trips at any time. You can delete your account yourself (Delete account, in the account menu on the website or the Account tab in the iOS app): this deletes your aircraft, saved trips, settings and sign-in right away and cancels a subscription bought on the website. Residual copies in backups and our providers' systems are removed within 30 days, except billing records we must keep for tax and accounting purposes. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting.

Your choices and rights

You can see and edit your aircraft, settings and saved trips in the Service, and delete your account there at any time. You can also ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information by emailing support@vfr-trip-planner.com. Depending on where you live (for example California, other US states, the EEA or the UK), you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. We'll verify your request and won't treat you differently for making it.

Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls and reputable providers. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

International users

We operate in the United States, and our providers may process information in the US and other countries, whose laws may differ from yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Changes to this policy

We'll post any changes here with a new date and, for material changes, tell you by email or in the Service before they take effect.
